Announced this year by CNN as one of the “7 African music festivals you really have to see”, MTN BUSHFIRE is Swaziland’s internationally acclaimed music & arts festival that celebrates creative expression whilst promoting social responsibility, stimulating the economy and drawing talent and tourists from across Africa and around the world.

Each year a multi-generational global community of more than 20,000 “BRING THEIR FIRE” to the scenic farmlands of the Malkerns Valley to experience the three day event renowned for eclectic and multi-dimensional programming rooted in world music including a compelling line-up of theatre, poetry, dance, art exhibits & installations, story-telling, puppetry, film, and themed workshops. A vibrant handcraft market, family-friendly performances & KidZone as well as the recently introduced interactive art and dialogue space, The Barn, all combine to create a magically eclectic three day entertainment experience.

With profits going to support local charities, MTN BUSHFIRE serves, in the words of one journalist, “as a living, breathing, creative ecosystem.”

With your ride organised from Jo’burg to Swaziland and back, your accommodation with breakfast & dinner included and your MTN Festival ticket, the only thing you will need is a sleeping bag, pillow, drinks and cash for items of a personal nature. YOU WILL NEED A PASSPORT

Once arriving in Swaziland at the festival camp all you do is take your belongings, check into your tent and hit the festival grounds exploring the arts and music shows.

There are no transport worries while you there and our crew will provide you with scrumptious cooked breakfast & dinner daily.

The Reason

By joining a Rush road adventure at very little cost, you won’t have to worry about transport, petrol, DUI, tolls, getting enough friends together or accommodation. With your ride organised from Jo’burg to Swaziland and back, your accommodation with breakfast & dinner included and your MTN Festival ticket, the only thing you will need is a sleeping bag, pillow, drinks and cash for items of a personal nature. YOU WILL NEED A PASSPORT

Once arriving in Swaziland at the festival camp all you do is take your belongings, check into your tent and hit the festival grounds exploring the arts and music shows.

There are no transport worries while you there- our crew will shuttle you to certain activities, & provide you with scrumptious cooked breakfast & dinner daily.


How It Works?

Once you’ve booked and paid for your trip, your entry ticket, seat and tent is allocated aside for you. All you need to do is grab a sleeping bag, pillow and some warm cloths and join the Bushfire Bus at one of the pick up points in Johannesburg or Pretoria.

After a mellow ride through to MTN Bushfire in the heart of Swaziland, your pre-erected tent and mattress will be there set up for you just to put your belongings down and enjoy the festival.

Each morning between 08h00 & 10h00 our crew will have a cooked breakfast for you including cornflakes, bread and jam, etc. Early evening dinner is served from 18h00 to 20h00, giving you the energy you need to have a good night out. There are many different food stalls to choose from for yummy lunches at such reasonable prices plus you get to try something new each day.

After breakfast on the last morning we join the coach back to Gauteng, arriving back in the late afternoon.


What To Bring Along?

You need to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, some warm cloths, a towel and your toiletry’s. MTN Bushfire showers are basic but clean and have hot water with short queue’s depending on the time of day. A torch will come in very handy after dark and a warm pair of boots, gloves and a beanie will make you more comfortable late at night.

We have all the cups plates for meals but we advise you to bring a plastic cup for your personal drinks as we will not loan out cups because they seem to disappear and never to be found again.

Luggage space on the bus is limited to a certain degree so bring a small backpack for your cloths and a day bag to help us with the space.

How It Works?

Once you’ve booked and paid for your trip, your seat is allocated aside for you. All you need to do is bring a small tent, grab a sleeping bag, pillow and some warm cloths and join the Bushfire Bus at one of the pick up points in Johannesburg or Pretoria.

After a mellow ride through to Swaziland, we will show you the pick up point and time when the bus will be leaving back to Gauteng on the last day. There are many camping areas you can choose to put up your tent and enjoy Splashy Fen.

On the last morning we join the coach back to Gauteng at approximately 10h00 arriving back in the late afternoon.

Detailed Daily Road Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Johannesburg to Ezulwini Valley, Swaziland (Distance travelled +- 380km)

Departing from Johannesburg at 06h00, we travel across Swaziland’s Border Post, stopping en-route for lunch, then we head toward “House on Fire”, an inspired venue set against a breath-taking landscape in the heart of Swaziland’s Ezulwini Valley. This fantasy environment is as unexpected as it is moving. The official campsite is set up on Mandalela’s Farm, within 2 minutes walking distance of the festival arena – once we have settled into our campsite we sit down to a scrumptious dinner prepared by the Rush crew after which the evening is yours to enjoy the festivities of the MTN Bushfire.

Day 2: MTN Bushfire Festival

After waking up to the most amazing scenery, breakfast is served by your Rush crew after which we head back to the “House on Fire”. A walk through this enchanting space is a must for every traveller in the Southern African region. At its core is a sunken “Afro – Shakespearean Globe Theatre”, statues, colourful revelations, soap stone relief and a quirky sense of humor. Contributing to the multinational ambiance of the festival is the Food Fair which offers a wide abundance of unique world cuisines to suit all tastes. Dinner will be served at the campsite by the Rush crew and the evening is yours to celebrate Swaziland’s Bushfire in all its splendour.

Day 3: Swaziland to Johannesburg (Distance travelled +-380km)

After a tasty breakfast prepared by the Rush crew, we have until lunch time to enjoy the final day of the festival after which head back to Johannesburg on the Rush bus, stopping off en-route for your refreshments purchases.

  • Confirm the date you would like to travel with your consultant.
  • Fill in the booking form with all required information and details to your tour. We will then send you an invoice with your booking number.
  • Make the payment via an Internet bank transfer or deposit directly into the Rush Adventures banking account. Once payment is confirmed, confirmation of travel and all pertaining vouchers and documents will be promptly sent to you.

A deposit of 20% is required on booking and the balance is due 6 weeks prior to departure.
A cancellation fee will be charged accordingly to Rush Adventure in the event thereof. All conditions are stated on the booking form.

Please notify us when booking if there are any dietary requirements or medical conditions to make your tour streamlined to your individual needs. The Adventure Boost is payable to the tour leader on the day of departure.
