Day 1: Johannesburg – Greater Kruger National Park.

Leaving Johannesburg on our Kruger National park safari tour we head through the scenic province of Mpumalanga. Here we visit an animal rehabilitation centre. It is a non profit organisation, where we see the remarkable work carried out by volunteers to rehabilitate cheetah and other wildlife. Travelling onwards, we reach a private game reserve bordering the Kruger National Park. Early evening we enjoy chatting around the fire as dinner is prepared by our crew.

Day 2 & 3: Kruger National Park tour.

The next two days we enjoy our Kruger National Park safari. We explore the central area of Kruger National Park. Each morning rising early and with a packed breakfast in hand, we enter the Kruger National Park. Kruger National Park is home to over 505 species of birds. 148 species of mammals. And many reptiles which we enthusiastically search for during our time in the park. The impressive atmosphere of the Kruger National Park enables you to understand why it is held in such high esteem amongst explorers from all over the world. We avoid the hot midday sun and enjoy the peacefulness that one of the rest camps has to offer. There are many facilities available for game viewers. Such as: restaurants, souvenir stores and swimming pools. We return to our lodge in the greater Kruger area in the late afternoon. Happily exhausted and highly satisfied with the day’s events. Early evening we all enjoy a lovely dinner gathered around the warm fire, crackling in the stillness of night.

Day 4: Kruger National Park – Johannesburg.

After breakfast we take a drive via the panoramic route. Visiting Three Rondavels, Gods Window and the Blyde River Canyon. Before returning to Johannesburg where the tour ends.

Highlight: Panorama Route.

Camping: N/A.

Meals: Breakfast.

Meals are mainly prepared in camp by the tour leader. Help preparing the meals is invited on tour. This is part of your contribution to the success of the tour. Most people find the greater their involvement. The greater their enjoyment. Come along with a sense of adventure and a flexible attitude and you will be sure to have an amazing time.

What to bring?

Please try to keep your luggage to a minimum. Bearing in mind that most airlines impose a 20kg limit. It should be brought in a soft holdall or rucksack along with a smaller day bag. You will need to bring a mixture of lightweight and warm clothing for the evenings and early morning game drives. Your own sleeping bag is recommended for this tour. Many clients prefer to use their own but if you don’t own a sleeping bag we will provide a basic one. Please let us know at time of booking. We recommended you pack a small torch or headlamp, mosquito spray and a money pouch/ belt that can be easily hidden. Please try to avoid bringing unnecessary valuables. And use hotel safe (before/after your tour) to store the bulk of your money, passport, and airline tickets.
NB: You will require a sleeping bag (which you must provide yourself) if you intend to stay in a dorm room at the joining hotel.

Introduction To Kruger National Park safari.

Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserve in the World, conserving nature since 1926. Not only is it the biggest, Kruger National Park is also the most iconic game reserve in Africa. Kruger park covers an astonishing 2.1 million hectares, stretched across 2 of South Africa’s 9 provinces namely Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Kruger National Park has nine main gates which are used as access to the many different camps.

Location of Kruger National Park.

Kruger National Park is located in the north-east end of South Africa. 2 rivers act as the natural boarders of Kruger, to the North we have the Limpopo River, and to the South we have the Crocodile River.  To the east of Kruger National Park we have the Lebombo Mountain range which separates Kruger from Mozambique. The Western border runs parallel to the park stretching around 65km’s. The highest point of Kruger National Park is in the east 840m above sea level. This hill is known as Khandzalive.

Weather in Kruger National Park.

The climate of the Kruger National Park is subtropical, meaning summer days are often very hot with temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius. Kruger’s rainy season falls from September to May. IT is said that winter is the best time to join a Kruger National Park safari for various reasons. Viewing wildlife is more rewarding as the vegetation is sparser and animals are drawn to the waterholes to drink every morning and evening.

Birds  There are 517 species of birds found in the Kruger National Park. Ever heard of the big-six birds? They are the martial eagle, lappet-faced vulture, kori bustard, ground hornbill, saddle-billed stork and the Pel’s fishing owl.

Mammals All of the big 5 can be located in the Kruger National Park, which also plays host to more species of large mammals than any other nature reserve in Africa which an astonishing 147 species. Kruger National Park protects a few packs of the endangered African wild dog of which there are thought to be only about 400 in the whole of South Africa.

Reptiles  Kruger National Park has an amazing 114 species of reptile, including Puff Adder, Black Mamba and more than 4000 crocodiles
